The City of Greer is one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing communities. Before the construction of the new city hall, the city's municipal departments were spread across 14 separate buildings, none of which were originally intended for civic purposes. The city had never had a dedicated town hall since its establishment in 1876, always resorting to repurposing other properties. The last property acquired was a post office built during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The city's drive to modernize its civic space has prepared it to meet expanding public service needs for the next 50 years.
The Challenge
Before the construction of Greer’s new city hall, municipal departments were scattered across 14 separate buildings, none of which were originally intended for civic purposes. The city had never had a dedicated town hall since its establishment in 1876, always resorting to repurposing other properties. The last property acquired was a post office built during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The architectural hardware in the new city hall and courthouse needed to meet the demands of reliability, durability, and accessibility.
The Solution
For both internal and external doorways throughout the new facilities, project specifiers selected DORMA’s 8600 Series Door Closers and 9000 Series Exit Devices. DORMA 8600 Series Closers represent the latest in door control technology and are designed to exceed the demands of today’s buildings. With features like full range spring power adjustment and backcheck positioning valve, the 8600 Series Closer provides the flexibility needed to meet the many demands of commercial and institutional applications, including ADA barrier-free accessibility requirements. With their heavy-duty cast chassis, the 9000 Series Exit Devices provide superior durability for high-impact applications. A smooth reduced-projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards, while the partial length touchpad permits installing options, such as cylinder dogging and exit alarms, in the field.

Buoy Status Monitoring with LoRa
The Netherlands are well-known for their inland waterways, canals, sluices and of course port activities. The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure indicates that there are thousands of buoys and fixed items in and near water environments that would profit from IoT monitoring.
