The Challenge
HealthMEDX, a leading provider of software for long-term care, home health, and rehabilitation organizations, was facing the challenge of developing advanced software for healthcare providers more quickly and efficiently while keeping networking operations and capital expenses at a minimum. The company needed to adapt to the rapidly changing healthcare technology landscape and meet new regulations and government mandates transitioning the industry into the electronic age. HealthMEDX's comprehensive solutions give healthcare providers everything they need to automate their Customer Relationship Management (CRM), census, clinical electronic health record, and financial systems. However, being part of a dynamic industry meant that HealthMEDX had to know the needs of its clients and be able to immediately accommodate their requirements.
The Solution
HealthMEDX decided to explore Brocade IP networking products based on their positive experiences with Brocade Storage Area Network (SAN) solutions. The company deployed Brocade FCX Series switches at the network core, Brocade FastIron WS Series switches for Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Voice over IP (VoIP) at the network edge, Brocade Mobility Access Points for wireless connectivity, and Brocade Mobility Controllers for centralized wireless management. The Brocade network was easier to manage and provided a lower total cost of ownership for HealthMEDX. The new network paid for itself within 14 months, including the switches that were installed to support it. The new Wireless LAN (WLAN) gave developers fewer boundaries, allowing them to do their jobs more efficiently and get updates and new software to clients faster.

Hospital Inventory Management
The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
