About The Customer
Brinkster is a leading provider of custom cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS), providing world class hosting solutions to customers since 1999. These top solutions include virtualization infrastructure, storage, backup and disaster recovery, DDoS network attack mitigation and cloud scrubbing, desktop as a service and hosted encrypted email. Headquartered in Phoenix, AZ, Brinkster services 50,000 customers in over 175 countries, developing long-lasting customer relationships by delivering top performance, higher utilization rates and lower total cost of ownership for customers. Brinkster offers dedicated and managed hosting and cloud computing services to a wide range of businesses from small start-ups to large corporations with the majority of its small and mid-size customers using its shared hosting services.
The Challenge
Brinkster, an Infrastructure as a Service provider, needed a load balancing solution for web, cloud and mobile based applications. As an IaaS company, it was imperative that Brinkster provide load balancing capabilities for all web, cloud and mobile based applications. It is a capability that Brinkster offers in their products, as well as one they offer to customers for infrastructure deals. As applications continue to evolve and become more complex, there is an increase of stress on networks – resulting in unwanted downtime, maintenance efforts and costs. Therefore, Brinkster needed a solution that could accommodate these growing, key infrastructure challenges that affect web applications.
The Solution
Radware’s Alteon NG is built to cost-effectively address these emerging IT issues that enterprises face daily. It improves application availability with health monitoring, traffic redirection, global server load balancing, link high-availability and full redundancy that reduces service interruptions. With Alteon NG, Brinkster not only protected their business reputation, productivity and profitability, but also provided these assurances to customers. Alteon NG ensures business continuity with the application delivery device’s advanced multi-site global server load balancing functionality. Additionally, Alteon NG integrates advanced ADC functionality in the OpenStack infrastructure for enterprise organizations considering to deploy OpenStack. This unique solution is based on dedicated, per-tenant virtual appliance instances ensuring that tenants are not impacted by each other and that each has its dedicated capacity and networking resources.
Operational Impact
  • Brinkster received a better and easier load balancing solution for their enterprise and customers.
  • During times of high demand, Alteon NG identified - in real time - faulty elements and bypass them.
  • From application failures to server or site failure, Alteon NG diagnosed the problem and corrected it to maintain session persistency.
  • Built with a custom-designed hardware platform, the solution is scaled to fit any of Brinkster’s customers from small start-ups to large corporations.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Brinkster used Alteon NG to offer its enterprise customers application delivery plus advanced services including virtual load balancing and integration with SDN.
  • Built with SSL termination, it reduced the load in the main servers and resulted in a significant performance increase, especially when dealing with high-volume SSL traffic.
