The Challenge
The Almond Board of California faced several challenges with their existing backup solution, which relied on Symantec Backup Exec and tape libraries. The tape library was time-consuming, unreliable, and often broken, leading to increased complexity and costs in managing backups. Additionally, the organization needed a more effective disaster recovery strategy to ensure data protection and compliance with regulatory and retention requirements. The existing system's inefficiencies were hindering the IT department's ability to focus on other critical projects, necessitating a more streamlined and reliable backup solution.
The Solution
To address these challenges, the Almond Board of California implemented Barracuda Backup 690, Barracuda Message Archiver 350, and Barracuda Spam Firewall 300. Barracuda Backup provided a unified, cost-efficient data protection solution that integrated backup software, local storage, and remote storage. The solution was rapidly deployed, reducing the time needed to manage backups by close to 80%. The advanced deduplication technology significantly reduced the storage footprint for their virtual and physical environments, including Microsoft Hyper V, Microsoft Exchange, and SQL databases. For offsite storage, the organization utilized Barracuda Cloud Storage, which offered unlimited cloud storage and fixed, predictable costs for replication. This setup allowed for long-term retention and offsite vaulting, meeting regulatory and compliance needs while freeing up local storage for additional revisions.

System requirements: In the past, most environmental control systems of orchid greenhouses in Taiwan used PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller) with poorscalability and control, and could not be connected to the Internet formonitoring from the cloud. For advanced database analysis and networking capability, the PC platform must be adopted. Therefore, PAC Systems (Programmable Automation Controller) with both PLC programming capabilities andPC functions is a better choice.The environmental control of the Orchid greenhouse switches on and off devices like fan, shade net, cooling/heat pump, liquid flow control, water-cooling wall etc. It is controlled by a control panel of electric controllers, and is driven by a motor, to adjust the greenhouse temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions to the set parameters.
