About The Customer
DACHSER is a family-owned logistics company headquartered in Kempten, Germany. It is one of the leading logistics providers, offering comprehensive transport logistics, warehousing, and customized services in two main business fields: DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics and DACHSER Road Logistics. The latter is divided into DACHSER European Logistics and DACHSER Food Logistics. With around 25,000 employees at 437 locations worldwide, DACHSER generated revenue of EUR 5.3 billion in 2014. The company moved a total of 73.7 million shipments weighing 35.4 million tons.
The Challenge
DACHSER faced high costs and inefficiencies due to manual interventions in payment runs between SAP and a heterogeneous bank landscape. The existing Excel-based reporting systems were prone to errors and imprecision, and there was no integration of bank communication and reporting systems. The project objectives included harmonizing payment processes with SAP usage, reducing complexity due to various bank formats, decentralizing accounting, and eliminating compliance and audit risks.
The Solution
DACHSER implemented the TIS solution to automate and standardize their international payment processes derived from their ERP systems. The TIS Bank Transaction Manager (BTM) was used to handle SAP payment runs for domestic and foreign payments in standard iDoc format. The system offered integrated connectivity with banks and compliant distributed electronic signature functionality. The web-based architecture allowed global access via a web browser, eliminating the need for software installation at all locations. The 'Master User' approach facilitated the administration of signature authorizations, centralizing the process on the TIS platform.
Operational Impact
  • The TIS solution provided an end-to-end system that met the requirements for automated payment processes, including formatting, connectivity, and administration of electronic signature authorizations.
  • The need to adapt bank formats in SAP was eliminated, simplifying the process.
  • SEPA-ISO 20022 XML compliance was achieved, ensuring regulatory adherence.
  • The TIPCO integrated reporting system replaced the error-prone Excel-based system, enhancing transparency and efficiency in international payments.
  • All of DACHSER’s bank accounts, financial positions, guarantees, and derivatives were combined into one system, enabling comprehensive reporting for both treasury and legal entities.
Quantitative Benefit
  • DACHSER generated revenue of EUR 5.3 billion in 2014.
  • The company moved a total of 73.7 million shipments weighing 35.4 million tons.
