The customer is an electronic commerce company with over 500,000 employees worldwide. The majority of their employees are based in warehouses. The company has a strong global presence and processes a variety of consumer goods in their warehouses. They have a core mission to improve area readiness, enhance line operations, and reduce costs. They were looking for a solution to streamline their inspection/auditing processes for improved employee engagement and better overall site safety.
The Challenge
The company, with a strong global presence and warehouses processing a variety of consumer goods, needed a versatile environmental, health and safety (EHS) auditing tool. The tool needed to be expandable and customizable in accordance with their area readiness program. The company's core mission was to improve area readiness, enhance line operations, and reduce costs. They wanted to streamline inspection/auditing processes for improved employee engagement and better overall site safety. They needed an IT solution with broad program area coverage including Area Readiness, DOT, EHS, Equipment, Food Safety, Hazmat, and Social Responsibility. The application needed to have offline access and Mobile capability to conduct, identify, and correct EHS hazards more efficiently.
The Solution
The solution was the deployment of the Benchmark Inspection Tool to assign, conduct and track EHS inspections using a custom, business-defined checklist. The Inspection tool enabled functionalities such as assigning inspection frequency and responsibility across multiple departments with the ability to send and receive automatic email reminders. It allowed inspections to be conducted offline and scan barcodes to quickly access area specific inspections, and view images specific to an area to access if a zone is up to EHS standards. It also helped identify findings, establish corrective actions and track completed inspections in a centralized location. The digital solution’s features were aligned to address site-specific needs, including scoring model and response options. Safety inspections were included in the new employee engagement program for enhanced program execution.
