Ariston Thermo is a global leader in thermic comfort and energy efficiency. It offers a wide range of products, systems and solutions that are designed to provide maximum thermic comfort with minimum energy use. Founded in 1930, and headquartered in Fabriano, Italy, Ariston Thermo now sells 7 million products a year to 150 countries around the world. The company currently produces smart appliances integrated with Wi-Fi technology, enabling customers to remotely manage their home heating system anywhere at any time, through the mobile or web app.
The Challenge
Ariston Thermo’s solutions for thermic comfort management comprise of Wi-Fi connected boilers and water heaters that can send information such as temperatures to its IoT platform in Europe. Customers can then access this information using the mobile or web app. Ariston Thermo found that its website and mobile app users in China were experiencing very slow load times - a critical flaw for its remote heating management system, which is designed to work in real-time. If the connected app is slow, the user experience suffers, putting the success of the product at risk. China has its own unique issues, which poses specific challenges for companies launching websites and applications into the region. This can impact web performance in the country and makes it hard or even impossible to access a website hosted outside of China – which was putting the success of Ariston Thermo’s connected app at risk. Ariston Thermo needed a solution fast, but building a second IoT platform in China was not feasible, both in terms of costs and timing.
The Solution
Ariston Thermo started to look for a CDN partner that could deliver fast and reliable connectivity to its servers in Europe to overcome these latency issues. The company wanted a CDN provider with the capacity to tackle latencies in China and also the technology to accelerate dynamic content in the country. As one of the few CDN providers that can target China, Ariston Thermo looked to CDNetworks to improve the performance. Prior to sale, CDNetworks offered Ariston Thermo the opportunity to test out the new solution to ensure that its connected services worked in real-time. It then implemented its CDN solution for dynamic content and also provided its unparalleled consultancy, which helped Ariston Thermo to secure the necessary ICP Bei’an license, and ensure the website and mobile app remained accessible by customers in China.
