The Challenge
Jackson Parish Hospital faced significant challenges in managing its IT infrastructure and ensuring cybersecurity. With limited IT resources and expertise, the hospital struggled to monitor a diverse environment that included endpoints, physical and virtual servers, and cloud services. Compliance with HIPAA and PCI DSS was also a critical requirement. The hospital's IT infrastructure was outdated, and there was a lack of comprehensive visibility and documentation. Dr. Jason Thomas, the COO and CIO, recognized the need for a solution that could provide visibility, ensure compliance, and proactively address cybersecurity threats.
The Solution
To address its challenges, Jackson Parish Hospital deployed Arctic Wolf Managed Detection and Response (MDR) to gain comprehensive visibility and monitor its IT infrastructure. The hospital gradually increased the amount of data directed to the service, leveraging Arctic Wolf's 'all-you-can-eat' approach to monitor all logs without breaking the budget. Arctic Wolf's Concierge Security Team provided around-the-clock cybersecurity expertise, helping the hospital detect and mitigate threats, such as bitcoin mining malware and unauthorized data transmission from a radiology system. Additionally, Arctic Wolf assisted in securing the hospital's telemedicine program by isolating medical equipment from school networks and alerting the hospital to any suspicious activity. The hospital also added monitoring for its Microsoft Office 365 environment to protect patient information and assess risks. More recently, Jackson Parish deployed Arctic Wolf Managed Risk to better understand its IT assets and manage vulnerabilities, further reducing its threat surface and rebuilding trust in its IT systems.

The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals.
