The company operates more than 80 branch locations throughout Tennessee and offers 24x7 online loan services in nine other states across the U.S. It provides a wide range of financial services, including cash advances, check cashing, electronic wire transfer, bill payment, prepaid cards, and money orders. Handling sensitive customer data for loan processing and bill payment services, Advance Financial must satisfy compliance and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. The company has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private American companies for five consecutive years.
The Challenge
Advance Financial faced significant challenges in managing its cybersecurity infrastructure. The company lacked centralized visibility into security alerts from multiple point security products, including antivirus on desktops, perimeter firewalls, and cloud access service brokers. With over 400 million security alerts per month, the limited IT team struggled to triage and prioritize these alerts, leading to missed security threats. Additionally, the team spent considerable time generating customized reports to meet financial regulations such as PCI-DSS and GLBA. Building an internal security operations center (SOC) was considered but found to be more than three times the cost of adopting a SOC-as-a-service solution.
The Solution
Advance Financial adopted Arctic Wolf's SOC-as-a-service solution to address its cybersecurity challenges. The deployment was straightforward, requiring minimal reconfiguration of the company's edge network appliances. Arctic Wolf's cloud-based SIEM platform provided 360-degree visibility into anomalous activities across on-premises and online operations. The Arctic Wolf Concierge Security® Team conducted continuous vulnerability management, monitored administrative privileges, and ensured secure configuration of hardware and software. The team also handled the analysis of audit logs, significantly reducing the number of security incidents that needed to be escalated. Smooth Transition to Energy Savings
The building was equipped with four end-of-life Trane water cooled chillers, located in the basement. Johnson Controls installed four York water cooled centrifugal chillers with unit mounted variable speed drives and a total installed cooling capacity of 6,8 MW. Each chiller has a capacity of 1,6 MW (variable to 1.9MW depending upon condenser water temperatures). Johnson Controls needed to design the equipment in such way that it would fit the dimensional constraints of the existing plant area and plant access route but also the specific performance requirements of the client. Morgan Stanley required the chiller plant to match the building load profile, turn down to match the low load requirement when needed and provide an improvement in the Energy Efficiency Ratio across the entire operating range. Other requirements were a reduction in the chiller noise level to improve the working environment in the plant room and a wide operating envelope coupled with intelligent controls to allow possible variation in both flow rate and temperature. The latter was needed to leverage increased capacity from a reduced number of machines during the different installation phases and allow future enhancement to a variable primary flow system.
