Zelle has 150 attorneys and support staff located across nine different U.S. locations and an office in London. The firm operates 165 endpoints and 65 servers, along with a range of cloud services to support its attorneys and staff. Zelle’s client portfolio includes Fortune 100 enterprises with comprehensive cybersecurity requirements for its law firms and other vendors. To meet these requirements, Zelle’s legal engagements typically require conforming with corporate clients’ risk management requirements.
The Challenge
Zelle LLP faced significant challenges in maintaining an appropriate security posture with comprehensive visibility across multiple offices and systems. The firm needed to build a security staff capable of analyzing event log data and meeting client obligations for cybersecurity. Significant data breaches originating through work with subcontractors heightened awareness among large corporations about the potential risks vendors pose. Corporations now require their legal counsel to adopt stronger security measures than ever before. Initially, these requirements were in the form of questionnaires, but they evolved into a combination of questionnaires and review sessions. An internal audit of Zelle's security practices revealed gaps in their ability to detect and respond to threat indicators. This led to the realization that ramping up managed detection and response (MDR) capabilities was a significant security need.
The Solution
To address its security challenges, Zelle LLP evaluated three vendors in the managed detection and response (MDR) space: TruShield, eSentire, and Arctic Wolf. Ultimately, Zelle selected Arctic Wolf due to its robust functionality, skilled expertise, and subscription-model pricing, which provided business flexibility. Zelle also added the Arctic Wolf Managed Risk solution to manage their digital risk posture continuously. This solution provides 24x7 continuous vulnerability scanning managed by security experts. Beyond vulnerability scanning, Zelle gains visibility into system misconfigurations against globally-accepted critical security control benchmarks and their account takeover risk exposure. The Arctic Wolf security operations solutions have been deployed for over a year, resulting in improved security across Zelle's network and meeting client requirements in various ways.
