The Challenge
Paul Wilson, the founder of anyPlant, had a passion for plants and wanted to create an app that would allow users to search for any plant and organize them based on various information. The challenge was to build an app from scratch, which was intimidating due to the complexities of coding. The app needed to be user-friendly, with advanced search capabilities, and the ability for users to save plants into their own groups. The app was also intended to be a useful tool for gardeners or students, where they could create their own groups based on soil types, colors, height, etc., to aid in planning. The challenge also included the need for a forum for users to discuss various topics and a profile section for each user.
The Solution
Paul chose Bubble, a no-code platform, to build the anyPlant app. The platform offered almost all of the customization options, features, and resources needed to build the app. The app's interface was designed to be as simple as possible, with a clear search box and the ability for users to take a picture of a plant using their camera. The app would then identify the plant and return a list of successful matches based on the image uploaded, using the https://plant.id service. The app also included a Profile section for each user and a Forum for users to discuss various topics. Admin members had access to a 'sticky' category for read-only posts. The app's data source came via a number of API requests which pointed towards https://trefle.io, a database dedicated to plants.
