About The Customer
Advanced Systems Group (ASG) is a value-added reseller known for offering high-quality systems, service, and support. For over 27 years, ASG has been providing assessments, consulting services, and storage and data management solutions. Operating as a national Open Systems integrator, ASG helps customers meet today’s increasingly difficult IT challenges. ASG operates as a reseller and is a certified Check Point partner, custom tailoring computer systems to fit an organization's every need. By focusing on a core set of products, ASG has earned a reputable standing as a leader in the industry, backed by a proven track record of success.
The Challenge
Advanced Systems Group (ASG), a national Open Systems integrator and certified Check Point partner, was facing growing security challenges as it expanded from a single office to multiple locations. Despite being a smaller company with just over 100 employees, ASG was dealing with significant issues related to network security. The company was using Verizon Business for the management of its wide-area network, but was dissatisfied with the limitations of their network managed firewalls. The cost was high and the bandwidth provided was insufficient for ASG's needs. ASG's Chief Information Officer, Dan Park, was looking for a solution that could provide better internet security management at a more affordable cost.
The Solution
ASG decided to implement Check Point's UTM-1 Total Security appliance to address its security challenges. The UTM-1 appliance includes a proven firewall that can examine hundreds of applications, protocols, and services. It also features integrated SmartDefense™ IPS for signature- and protocol-anomaly-based intrusion prevention, protecting business-critical services from known and unknown attacks. ASG uses one UTM-1 1050 appliance at the headquarters and five UTM-1 Edge™ devices at the remote offices. The UTM-1 Edge devices allow users to connect securely via a remote tunnel or SSL type tunnel. The UTM-1 solution provided ASG with a simple, cost-effective way to secure their network.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Check Point's UTM-1 Total Security appliance has brought significant operational benefits to ASG. The solution has simplified the setup of site-to-site VPNs and remote access, replacing manual setup of node-to-node VPN tunnels and security for an entire VPN with a One-Click process. This has made it easier to add new sites and remote users automatically. The UTM-1 Total Security appliances have also enabled secure, flexible remote access, working seamlessly with a variety of VPN agents. The success and ease-of-use of the UTM-1 product have also benefited ASG's salespeople.
Quantitative Benefit
  • ASG decreased the time spent managing security by up to five hours per week
  • ASG was able to increase bandwidth by a factor of seven
  • ASG experienced a positive return on investment (ROI) with the UTM-1 box
