About The Customer
Swissgrid is the national grid company in Switzerland, responsible for the secure, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the Swiss high-voltage grid. The company operates at seven sites across different regions of Switzerland and employs over 400 people. Swissgrid uses SAP as its ERP system, with modules TR and CFM in use. The company manages around 50 bank accounts and performs payment transactions with various national and international banking institutions, each with specific formats and requirements. Historically, Swissgrid made payments over various proprietary web solutions, leading to high maintenance costs and efforts within IT, as well as a lack of expertise in managing numerous connections. The manual processes in the treasury and accounting departments made efficient and structured working methods difficult, increasing the risk of errors and communication disruptions.
The Challenge
Swissgrid, the national grid company in Switzerland, faced several challenges with their existing payment processes. The company was using various proprietary web solutions for payments, leading to high maintenance costs and efforts within IT. Additionally, there was a lack of expertise in the Treasury and IT departments concerning the numerous connections. Manual processes in the treasury and accounting departments made efficient and structured working methods difficult, increasing the risk of errors and communication disruptions. Swissgrid needed a new solution to automate and standardize their payment processes, achieve Straight-Through-Processing (STP) of all payments, and reduce maintenance costs and compliance risks.
The Solution
Swissgrid decided to implement the Enterprise Payment Optimization Platform by TIS to fully automate their payments, standardize procedures, and achieve Straight-Through-Processing (STP) of all payments. The new solution met the various requirements for Swiss payments, including format conversions, seamless STP, and electronic transmission of bank account statements. The TIS platform provided low maintenance costs, high security, availability, and stability. The complete integration of SAP ERP systems and banks eliminated communication disruptions and manual operation risks. The new solution offered transparency, traceability, control, and compliance, with real-time status overviews of all payment processes. The web-based architecture of the TIS cloud solution allowed for rapid implementation and future sustainability by adapting to changing conditions in the Swiss market. The company plans to implement SEPA Business Direct Debit as the next step, leveraging the SEPA-ready TIS solution for minimal effort and continuous development to adjust to future regulatory changes.
